International Studies

International View The international studies program at Alderson-Broaddus College began in 1965 with the establishment of the Austria Program to provide students with a semester of study in Europe. In 1999, the Austria Program was further developed to include a consortium of five colleges including Alderson-Broaddus, Eastern University, Franklin College, Judson University, and Keuka College. The program’s instructors are selected from the faculties of the participating institutions.

Over the years more than 500 students have participated in this outstanding program designed to better prepare today’s young people for a more successful career in our global society. The Austria Program remains the cornerstone of the Alderson-Broaddus international studies curriculum.

Students who participate in the Austria Program spend their fall semester in Salzburg, Austria in residence in a hotel or “pension” near the historic medieval center of old Salzburg, undertaking three classes daily Monday through Thursday, with weekends free for personal travel, if desired. Upon completion of an extra course, students may be awarded a minor in International Studies.

Over the past decade, the college has expanded its international studies programs to include student academic and service opportunities in Latin America, Asia, and selected European seminars. These programs are open to all A-B students and include areas of work in the Humanities, Medical Sciences, and the Social Sciences.
